What Do I Call My .Sig Card Set?

As I previously mentioned, the Guardians CCG blog has 100 card designs based on many of the .sig cards. One of the things missing from the collection is a name.

I never named them because they were just homebrew cards that I was tossing off at the end of messages and I hadn't given it much thought? So what to name the new set?

Well, there are some Angels, which I always thought got a raw deal in the original game. This might be because Demons and Devils are considered cooler or because they had folks like Brom doing the artwork. (Brom did one Angel card: the Angel of Death. Kind of figures, doesn't it?)

On the other extreme, the stronghold is the First Circle of Hell, which gives more support to those same Demons and Devils.
This leads me to think that the name should have something to do with Inferno or Infernal. Moreover, Jackalwere used a delta as the symbol for the set. Delta is the letter "D", which is the first letter of Dante. Eerie co-incidence??

The set also introduces Elves, Dwarves and Gargoyles into Guardians, with a handful of cards each. These have little to do with the eternal struggle of Good v. Evil. On the other hand, not every card in Necropolis Park was a dinosaur nor a dead Egyptian.

So what to call it? Inferno? Dante's Peak? The Divine Expansion: so far North, it's Heavenly.

Of course, since they are .sig cards and the stronghold is Hell, we could call it ...

Nah, let's not go there.

When you think about expansions for Guardians, they all describe a place. Dagger Isle is presumably a place, though we've never seen it. Drifter's Nexus and Necropolis Park are also places, both represented by Strongholds, while Seven Seas is place that is represented by Terrain. Champion's Odyssey broke this pattern, but only because it was designed for Solo rules.

Here's a radical thought: design for me a Stronghold that benefits Angels and Knights. I'll find the artwork to match. You could then call the set whatever the "good" stronghold is called, or go with something more nebulous, like "Mythic Planes", "Celestial Gateway", or "Wanderer's Limbo" (which suggests that the Mid Realms are being torn between Heaven and Hell).

Just throwing some stuff out there to see what sticks...

The stronghold is the First Circle of Hell, which in Dante's poem would be Limbo. Dante's Limbo just doesn't sound threatening at all.

Limbo Rock would at least be amusing, and use a different meaning of Limbo (which could then be added to the set in some way).

(something) Limbo or Limbo (something).
Something I have to think about.

I think Inferno or Limbo are both good choices. Coming up with the rest of it is the hard part.

Necropolis Park = Undead + Dinosaurs
Drifter's Nexus = Outlaws + Entropy

What would we say the other major feature of the set is? I would think it would be Gargoyles - cool new creatures with a unifying ability.

For Gargoyles, you could use some combination of Wings (which also incorporates Angels for the most part), Protectors (as you called them the ultimate protectors in your Gargoyle CCC post), Spellbreakers, Limbo, or Inferno. I like Wings of Limbo, for instance...

And I've always really liked Tanniker's Revenge, but that has more to do with the set's creator than the set itself... :)

I have no problem with Tanniker's Revenge, except for the obvious lack of Outlaws, and the fact that there are a lot of new Gargoyles, Elves, Angels and Demons and Devils, none of which are Mortal.

On the other hand, if I could think of a backstory for Tanniker Smith and why he needed Revenge and opened up Portal to the gates of Hell ...

Ooooooooo, now you've done it.
You've got me thinking ....
A dangerous pastime.

I'm still waiting for that backstory! ;)

And you know, if you feel like designing a few more sig cards to fill in that backstory (once you've got it), I think that might be on the verge of awesome...

Been buried in mountains of snow and work. It's still simmering. Getting more ideas, but I had to check the file with my sig cards for the text and titles.
